| SUBJECT: | Educational Technology Leadership Conference December 9-11, 1996 |
The Division of Technology will conduct an educational leadership conference for local school division-level administrators, key technology instructional leaders and contact persons for library media, instructional technology, distance learning, administrative data processing and instructional television, December 9-11, 1996 in Roanoke at the Hotel Roanoke. This is the second annual conference and is responsive to an overwhelming number of requests to continue training and technical assistance. The theme of this year's conference is "Vision to Reality: Technology in the Classroom." This mirrors the movement from the design portion of the Six-Year Educational Technology Plan for Virginia through the early stage of implementation to its ultimate goal, effective use of technology in the classroom. Keynote sessions will feature several prominent national and state speakers, including Howard Mehlinger, Director of the Center for Excellence in education and author of School Reform in the Information Age. General and concurrent sessions will focus on continued implementation of the state plan and will include technology issues related to: planning, training, curriculum and administration. There will also be featured speaker sessions, hands-on workshops and several repeats of popular presentations. Each of your division level technology contacts will receive an announcement of the conference along with registration information from Virginia Tech's Office of Continuing Education. This conference is an opportunity for school division level technology specialists to share in an experience designed to motivate thinking and discussion about how we can better use technology to help teachers teach and students learn. We hope that you will encourage your division level technology leaders to attend what we know will be an exciting event. Questions regarding the conference may be directed to Lan Neugent, Conference Chair and Director of Instructional Media and Training, at (804) 786-2260 or Ida J. Hill, Division Chief for Technology, at (804) 225-2757. RLP/emt
