Conference June 22-25, 1997 |
The 1997 Virginia Pupil Transportation Conference sponsored by the Department of Education and VAPT, will be held at the Roanoke Airport Marriott, Roanoke, Virginia, June 22-25, 1997. The Marriott is located at 2801 Hershberger Road, N.W., off Interstate 581. An outline of the tentative conference program is shown as Attachment "A". On Sunday June 22, registration is schedule from noon to 5 pm. A workshop on Multicultural/Diversity will be conducted from 1 pm - 4 pm followed by a cook-out hosted by Salem Quality Equipment and Blue Bird Body Company from 4 pm to 6 pm Monday's schedule includes registration and exhibits from 7 am to 8:45 am and 2 pm to 5 pm, followed at 6 pm by a Bar-B-Que Cookout, sponsored by Sonny Merryman and Thomas Built Buses. On Tuesday, June 24, registration and exhibit areas will be open from 7 am to 8:45 am, with special entertainment provided by Kingmor and K & M Supply following the banquet. Displays of complete vehicles are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The first general session of the conference will begin at 9 am on Tuesday, June 24. The conference will adjourn by noon on Wednesay, June 25. Information requested in the attached Pre-Registrztion Form (Attachment "B") is needed to assist the Pupil Transportation Service plan for registration and other conference activities. There is a $5 registration fee to help defray the costs of conducting this conference. There will be a charge of $20 per person for the banquet scheduled on Tuesday. Your participation in the banquet will be most helpful. CHECKS FOR THE BANQUET AND REGISTRATION MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND, IF POSSIBLE, SUBMITTED TO THE PUPIL TRANSPORTATION SERVICE WITH YOUR CONFERENCE PRE-REGISTRATION FORM. Banquet reservations must be finalized ADM. SUPTS. MEMO NO. 15 Page 2 March 28, 1997 with the hotel by the Department no later than Monday, June 16. Payment or confirmation of reservation is required by that date. Pre-conference seminars for supervisors and mechanics are scheduled for 9 am Monday, June 23. Use Attachment "C" for seminar registration. Additionally, a special session is planned for Sunday afternoon. SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT - ATTACHMENT "D": To assist sponsors in planning for the special events, which have been planned again this year, it would be most helpful if you would fill out and return Attachment "D" no later than June 16, 1997. ADMITTANCE TO SPECIAL EVENTS WILL BE BY NAME TAGS ONLY. Everyone attending special events must register, pay the $5 registration fee, and receive a name tag (children under 12, no charge). Room reservations at The Marriott should be made as early as possible. ROOM RESERVATIONS RECEIVED BY THE HOTEL AFTER JUNE 6, 1997 WILL BE HONORED ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS AND POSSIBLY AT A HIGHER RATE. A special invitation is extended to division superintendents and other school officials who are involved in purchasing equipment, and anyone interested in learning more about changes in federal and state programs affecting pupil transportation.
