INFORMATIONAL

TO: Division Superintendents
FROM:

Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction
SUBJECT:

Adjustment to Basic Aid for the Cost of Educating
Students at the Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind

Attached is a printout reflecting the 1996-97 adjustment to
Basic Aid for each school division's share of the cost of
educating children in VSDB-Hampton and VSDB-Staunton.
Please note that the data used to calculate the adjustment
to Basic Aid and the actual transfer to the two schools are
based on enrollment data for the 1995-96 school year.  This
adjustment will be made on the May 16, 1997 EDI, along with
the Residential Governor's Schools, Foreign Language
Academies, MH/MR transfer and the Electronic Classroom.
(Refer to Information Supts. Memo. No. 160 dated September
27, 1997 on the Residential Governor's Schools and Foreign
Language Academies; refer to Informational Supts. Memo. No.
  2 dated January 1, 1997 on the MH/MR transfer.)

In order to maintain proper accounting for the funds
involved, it is necessary for each school division to note
in its Annual School Report submission the gross receipt of
Basic School Aid funds under line 2402020 "Basic School
Aid."  Total expenditures need to be reported in the
Function of Instruction, Purchased Services, appropriately
accounted for under the respective program(s).

If you have any questions, please call Mrs. June Eanes,
  Budget Director, at (804) 225-2060.
