| SUBJECT: | Competitive Grant Application for Learn and Serve Virginia K-12 Grants |
The Corporation for National Service has announced that grant awards will be provided on a formula allotment basis to State Educational Agencies (SEAs). These funds are being awarded to support Learn and Serve, a program designed for the purpose of planning, operating, implementing, or expanding high quality school-based service-learning projects, grades K-12. The Department of Education will make funds available in the form of competitive subgrants to school divisions in varying amounts, not to exceed $12,000. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 6, 1997. School divisions are invited to submit one application per school division for school-based service-learning projects. Selected subgrant recipients will be announced by July 15, 1997. Subgrant projects will begin September 2, 1997, and end June 30, 1998. Renewal applications for 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 will be available each Spring.
