| SUBJECT: | Statewide Meetings on the Proposed Licensure Regulations |
The Department of Education invites you to attend a meeting to provide an overview of the proposed licensure regulations for instructional personnel. The meetings will be held on June 9 and September 8, 1997, at the Sheraton Inn/Doubletree Hotel, 2350 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22901 (telephone number 804-973-2121). You may attend either a morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon or an afternoon session from 1:00-3:30 p.m. on either June 9 or September 8. Individuals interested in attending the meeting on June 9 should return the attached response form no later than June 2. Those interested in attending the September 8 meeting should register by September 1, 1997. During a joint meeting of the Board and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) on February 26, 1997, the Board of Education received a proposal from the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure (ABTEL) to revise the licensure regulations for school personnel. The Board of Education authorized the Department of Education to begin the required Virginia Register of Regulations' Provisions of the Administrative Process Act (APA), which includes a public comment period. A series of public hearings will be conducted in September by the Board of Education, and you will be notified regarding logistics for those hearings at a later date.
