| SUBJECT: | Governor Allen Announces Virginia's Goals 2000 Award |
The attached news release from the office of the Governor announces Virginia's award of $14.9 million in (FY 96 and FY 97) federal funds under the Goals 2000: Educate America Act." This award also qualifies Virginia for future Goals 2000 funding provided by the U. S. Department of Education. The Goals 2000 funds awarded for 1996 and 1997 will be used to provide competitive grants to school divisions for the purchase of classroom computers and computer-related equipment and for training. Plans are being made to develop and provide applications to divisions in the very near future. Grant monies will be made available to school divisions in sufficient time to allow purchase, delivery, and reimbursement before the end of this academic year.
