Attached is the form for submitting your Programs for the
Gifted - Annual Report for 1997-98. The completed form,
which is due on July 31, 1998, should be submitted by mail
to: Joy L. Baytops, Specialist, Programs for the Gifted,
Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia
23218-2120 or by FAX at (804) 786-1703.
In previous years, all localities voluntarily responded to
this request for data. You should be aware, however, that
due to new legislation passed during the 1998 General
Assembly, effective July 1, 1998, submission of this report
will be required by law. (Code of Virginia 22.1-18.1). The
new requirement may necessitate minor revisions to the
report form in 1998-99.
Your cooperation in completing the annual report is
appreciated. If you have questions regarding completion of

I. NUMBERS of Identified Gifted Students:
Complete this chart by providing the numbers of
students identified by category and grade level as
indicated on the form.
II. Please indicate the total number of identified students
served in your division. PLEASE REMEMBER TO COUNT EACH
STUDENT ONLY ONCE.
III. ETHNIC GROUP Breakdown:
Provide numbers of students identified as gifted by
ethnic categories as indicated.
