SUBJECT: Stanford 9 Testing Moved to Fall

  
  At its February 26, 1998 meeting, the Board of Education voted
  to adjust the Stanford 9 Achievement Testing (Stanford 9) in
  the following manner:

  1)    The statewide administration of the Stanford 9 will no
          longer take place in the spring of the school year;
          rather it will take place in the fall of the school
          year.  School divisions will not administer the
          Stanford 9 in the spring of 1998 as part of the
          statewide testing program. Instead, the next statewide
          administration of the Stanford 9 will be in the fall of
          1998.

  2)    The grade levels tested with the Stanford 9 in the fall
          as part of the statewide testing program will be grades
          4, 6, and 9.

  3)    The administration of the Stanford 9 to grade 11
          students has been eliminated from the state testing
          program.

  4)    The requirements for the testing of home-instructed
          students is such that testing for these students will
          remain on the spring timeline.

  More specific details regarding procedures and timelines for
  the Stanford 9 program, as now adjusted, will be issued
  shortly by the  Division of Assessment and Reporting.  The
  Division extends its thanks to the many school level
  colleagues who provided information that was necessary to
  assist the Board in making these decisions.
