| SUBJECT: | 1998 Technology Literacy Challenge Fund Subgrant Application |
Superintendent's Memo #76, dated May 29, 1998, announced the 1998 Technology Literacy Challenge Fund (TLCF) Grant to the Department of Education. TLCF represents a funding opportunity for school divisions to implement the training components of state and division technology plans. Guidelines for the 1998 subgrant include the optional purchase of computers for teacher-loan programs and software for training. One hundred and six subgrants averaging $55,000 each will be awarded for proposals that are innovative and use creative approaches to provide training opportunities for administrators, teachers, library media specialists, or other personnel. A copy of the subgrant application will be mailed to each division superintendent and technology coordinator by June 15, 1998. A completed application will require a signed original and five copies of the following: Cover Page Application Form Budget Project Assurance Description of Equitable Access and Participation Applications must be sent to the Department of Education, Division of Technology, 18th Floor, 101 North 14th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219, and postmarked by Wednesday, September 30, 1998. Fax copies and electronic submissions will not be accepted. The projected timeline indicates that subgrant awards will be announced to school divisions through a Superintendent's Memorandum no later than October 30, 1998.
