INFORMATIONAL

  The Department of Education is soliciting nominations from
  division superintendents for local educators who would be
  willing to serve on the Peer Review Committee for the
  Standards of Learning Training Initiative. Approximately 20
  Virginia educators will be invited to serve on the Peer
  Review Committee, which will meet on August 13 and 14 in
  Richmond. Nominees should be teachers, principals,
  administrators, or curriculum specialists who have knowledge
  of the core Standards of Learning, applications of
  instructional technology, Standards of Accreditation, SOL
  assessment, and professional development delivery models.

  Using the criteria listed in the grant application,
  committee members will read, rate, and make written comments
  on each grant application prior to the August meeting.
  During the meeting, reviewers will discuss their ratings and
  prepare a written summary of comments for each application.
  A school division's summary report will be distributed to
  the division's contact person by September 15, 1998.

  The Peer Review Committee will meet at the Roslyn Conference
  Center in Richmond. Specific information will be sent to
  each participant. Participants' mileage, meals, and lodging
  will be paid by the Department of Education. Participants
  will also receive a $150 honorarium for reading and rating
  the proposals prior to the committee meeting.

  Selection of committee members will take into consideration
  geographic distribution, ethnic/racial balance, and coverage
  of the required components in the training initiative. 
  Additional nominations will be solicited from institutions
  of higher education. To make your nomination, please
  complete and return the attached form to Dr. Patricia I.
  Wright, Director of Secondary Instruction, by July 15, 1998.
