| SUBJECT: | Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG) Grant Application Process |
Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) funds are available through the Department of Education's competitive grant application process for programs using the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) national model. These programs will be funded with school divisions in the state for the second semester of the 1998-99 school year. The local program will carry the name Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG), consistent with a private foundation of the same name. School divisions will be required to match the JTPA grants with local school funds and/or private funds. The primary mission of these programs will be to assist twelfth-grade youth who are economically disadvantaged and are not achieving in school to complete high school and to find and retain quality jobs. The school division must employ a job specialist, who will work directly with students who meet the program criteria. School divisions interested in submitting applications must request a grant packet application, complete the forms in the packet, and submit those forms to Robert Almond at the Department of Education no later than November 30, 1998. If additional information is needed regarding the program or the grant application, please contact Elizabeth Hawa at 804/225-2836. PDS:eh
