SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 190
December 18, 1998 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Phase II Standards of Learning (SOL) Report Interpretation Workshop |
School divisions are in the process of receiving the Phase II reports of the spring 1998 SOL testing. While the Phase II reports are similar in design to those in Phase I, the Phase II reports contain scaled scores and performance levels for students. Summary level reports for schools and school divisions contain information on mean scaled scores and percentages of students at the various performance levels (fail, pass/proficient, pass/advanced). To assist division directors of testing in working with others in interpreting the Phase II reports, the Department of Education has prepared a package of annotated reports and will conduct four regional workshops about these reports. Workshops will be held in the locations listed below and will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee. Space is limited. Division directors of testing may bring one additional staff member to the workshops. Please assist us in keeping to this number of attendees. Workshop 1: January 5 Christiansburg High School Auditorium 100 Independence Blvd. Christiansburg, VA Workshop 2: January 6 Turner Ashby High School Lecure Room 800 N. Main Street Bridgewater, VA Workshop 3: January 7 Newport News Public School Admin. Bldg. 12465 Warwick Boulevard Newport News, VA Workshop 4: January 8 James Monroe Building Conference Room C 101 N. 14Th Street Richmond, VA Due to the upcoming holidays there will be no registration form for these workshops. The Division of Assessment and Reporting looks forward to working with division directors of testing and other staff members as the Phase II SOL reports are reviewed. Questions regarding these workshops should be addressed to the staff of the Division of Assessment and Reporting at (804) 225-2102. PDS/CMH/jc
