SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 22
April 16, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Virginia Wellness-Related Fitness Test Data Analysis Service |
The Department of Education once again is providing a data analysis service for the Virginia Wellness-Related Fitness Test (VWRFT) data for the 1998-99 school year. Although the reporting of the VWRFT data is a division option, 73 percent of the school divisions in the commonwealth reported their data for the 1997-98 school year. The divisions that opt to submit their data will derive the following benefits: (1) an individual profile of the physical development of each student, (2) information that health and physical education teachers should use in planning for the instructional needs of students, (3) information that can be communicated to parents about the wellness-related fitness of their children, and (4) the Department of Education will aggregate the division data from each school's report and return a division summary to each locality as well as the state summary data. The names of each division will not be identified on the state summary. If your division would like to take advantage of this data analysis service, you should collect the VWRFT data at the school level. This year a separate mailing is being sent to your 1998 designated Physical Education Contact person. This mailing includes a School Summary data collection form for each school in your division on which the VWRFT data is to be recorded; a Teacher Summary form, which may be copied; and the Wellness-Related Fitness Ratings Data Collection Transmittal form. If your division chooses to take advantage of this service and participate in the VWRFT data collection, please advise your physical education contact person to collect all School Summary data forms, complete the transmittal form, and return them in one mailing by June 18, 1999 to: Dr. Sandra K.
