SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 47
June 18, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Pest Management Survey |
Pest Management Survey We have been asked by the Office of Pesticide Services in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to assist with a survey of all school divisions on their pest management practices and the need for training and assistance in developing an environmentally sound program that could reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. We ask for your cooperation in completing the survey so we can identify areas where training is needed and focus on the services most needed by the school divisions. The public is very aware and concerned about the application of chemical and non-chemical pest control methods used at public schools and a written plan administered by a certified pesticide applicator needs to be in place to protect the occupants of the buildings from exposure to chemicals and the School Board from exposure to liability. Please complete the survey as accurately as possible and return to the Department of Education by July 16, 1999. The survey should be returned by mail to: Mr. David Boddy Director, Facilities Services Virginia Department of Education P. O. Box 2120 Richmond, VA 23218-2120 Do not identify the school division in any way on the survey forms as we are not maintaining a file on individual responses. Please call Mr. Boddy at (804) 225-2035 if you have questions. Attachments: A hard copy of this memeo and its attachments will be sent to the superintendent's office.
