SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 70
August 13, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Final Allocations for Title II, Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program |
The U.S. Department of Education has notified the Virginia Department of
Education of a final allocation of $5,178,551 for Title II, Part B, the
Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program of the Elementary
and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1994. The attached table of Title
II "Final Entitlements" shows the allocation of Title II funds among school
divisions. The computations under the subtitle, "Proportional Allocations
of Total" show the required and allowable distribution of those funds at the
local level. These computations are based on provisions in the Title II
legislation.
The Commonwealth has been granted a waiver under Section 2206B of Title II;
therefore, divisions are not required to adhere to a funding priority of
75 percent of the total allocation for math and science programs. Figures
in the allocation tables should be used in developing the Title II application
for the 1999-2000 school year. Peer review of all Title II applications will
take place in September. Therefore, all applications should be submitted on
or before September 10, 1999.
Questions regarding the completion of your application or about the attached
allocation tables should be directed to either Dr. Marie Spriggs Jones,
or Mrs. Dianne Pollard, education program specialists, at (804) 786-0790
or 371-7583.
