SUBJECT: Standards of Learning 
The Department of Education is collecting information to 
be shared with school divisions, parents, and the media, 
about innovative efforts Virginia public schools are 
making to address student achievement of the Standards of 
Learning.  We need your help to 'get the word out.'  Cindy  Cave,
director of public affairs, Virginia Department of  Education,
would like to work with your staff to identify  innovative
practices and also the personnel who are  making good things
happen.  We would appreciate it if you  could identify programs in
your school divisions that are  making a difference.  Please send
us a brief description  of these initiatives and the name of the
contact person  who can provide additional information about the
projects.  The descriptions should be sent by mail or
