SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 66
March 26, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Student Count for Standards of Learning Booklets |
The Department of Education will assist school divisions in complying with the Standards of Accreditation by printing copies of the Standards of Learning, the state graduation requirements, and the testing schedule for distribution to each school division. The materials from the Department will be mailed to each division in time for distribution in the fall. In order to avert some of the problems we had with this year's distribution, we are asking you to give us your best estimate of your projected student membership for fall 1999. Instructions for the count are included on the attached page. Please return this information no later than April 16, 1999. If you need additional information or require assistance, please contact Janet Christopher, Bernie Chamberlain or Mona Mallory at (804) 225-2099. PDS/eh Attachment INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOL BOOKLET COUNTS Standards of Learning (SOL) booklets will be printed and shipped to schools for distribution to all students in September 1999. We have provided an estimated fall membership count by K-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12 for each school in your division on a web page at the following address: http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Publications/solbook.html Please review these counts and submit any revisions by Friday, April 16, 1999. To ensure that you receive an accurate number of booklets for each school, please give us your best estimate of the projected student membership for fall 1999. To facilitate revision of the counts, there is an Excel file to the right of your school division name, which you can download and save as a file on your computer. You can then open this file into Excel and make any necessary changes. After making any changes, be sure to save the file. If you have any rising 8th grade students who will be taking courses that require end-of-year SOL tests, please include these counts in the "Total 9-12" section, even though these grade levels are not offered in that school. If you will be opening a new school in your division, please add all information for that school. School numbers for new schools may be left blank if they are not available. If you have a school on the list that will be closed, zero out the counts and indicate "CLOSED" in the column to the right of the "TOTAL 9-12" column for that school. Please attach the revised file to an E-mail message and send it to solbooks@pen.k12.va.us using the Superintendent's secure mail account (SUPTxxx.). Your counts will be updated on the web page once the revisions are received. If you do not have access to Excel, submit changes by fax or mail using one of the following options: 1. You can print off your report and mark in red your changes; or 2. You can type and submit the revised counts using the following format: School No. School Name Total K-3 Total 4-5 Total 6-8 Total 9-12 For additional information and assistance, you may contact Janet Christopher, Bernie Chamberlain, or Mona Mallory at (804) 225-2099. Return this information no later than Friday, April 16, 1999 via mail to the office of MIS, Virginia Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120, fax to (804) 371-8978, or E-mail to solbooks@pen.k12.va.us.
