April 9, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Availability of Training through the Virginia Institute for Social Services Training Activities |
The purpose of this memorandum is to inform school divisions of no-cost or low-cost training opportunities. Virginia Commonwealth University's Virginia Institute for Social Services Training Activities (VISSTA) provides training for local divisions of social services and for local Comprehensive Services Act (CSA) Family Assessment and Planning Teams (FAPTs). The CSA curriculum has recently been revised, and the following courses are now available: 120: Utilization Management within a System of Care 121: Orientation to the Comprehensive Services Act 122: Maintaining and Sustaining FAPTs. In addition, FAPT members and their designated alternates are permitted to attend any course offered by VISSTA without cost. Courses for school personnel who are not involved with the FAPT will cost $15 per day of training. To register, personnel need to follow the instructions in the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA) Individual Training Needs Assessment (ITNA), of which a copy is attached. A complete course catalogue providing a detailed description of each course is also attached. In addition to school personnel involved with the CSA, other student services and instructional personnel may find these courses of value. Questions may be addressed to B. J. Zarris, Assistant Director of VCU VISSTA, at (804) 828-0311 or Dr. Lissa Power-deFur, Associate Director of Special Education and Student Services, who represents the Virginia Department of Education on the CSA State Management Team, at (804-225-2818).
