| SUBJECT: | AEL Videoconference on School Safety in Rural Settings |
The Appalachia Educational Laboratory, in collaboration with other labs in the Laboratory Network Program, is sponsoring an interactive videoconference that offers suggestions for creating a safer setting for rural schools. It will be moderated by Marie Hill, co-author of "Creating Safe Schools--What Principals Can Do." Focus topics will include: * Plans for school emergencies * Lessons learned from school administrators who have been thrust into violent situations * Collaborations to deal with emergencies and post emergency trauma Virginia will be represented on the panel by Dr. James Upperman, Superintendent of Manassas City Schools and Marsha Hubbard, School Safety Specialist, Department of Education. Other panel members include representatives from Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
