| SUBJECT: | General Adult Education (GAE) Applications for 1999-2000 |
The Virginia Department of Education will make $1,051,800 available for the partial reimbursement of expenditures made by school divisions for local General Adult Education programs for the fiscal year 1999-2000. These funds are authorized under financial assistance for General Adult Education provisions of the 1999 Virginia General Assembly and are offered contingent upon availability. Eligible classes for reimbursement for the fiscal year 1999- 2000 include adult high school classes for credit, General Educational Development (GED) preparatory, Americanization, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Reimbursement will be based on 60 percent of the fixed cost-per-class-hour or fixed cost-per-student-slot (External Diploma Program only). To assist in initiating your General Adult Education program for the fiscal year 1999-2000, copies of the forms necessary to complete your program application and a copy of "Instructions for Preparing Program Application and Request for Reimbursement for General Adult Education Program" are attached. Please submit your application no later than May 28, 1999. If no program is planned, write on the face of the application form your school division name and code, as well as the words "NO PROGRAM PLANNED." The application and the outline of proposed program are to be returned to: Dr. Lennox L.
