SUBJECT: Reports of Certain Acts to School Authorities 
This memo is to bring your attention to changes made by 
the 1999 General Assembly to 22.1-280.1 of the Code of 
Virginia related to "reports of certain acts to school 
authorities."  Several provisions have been added to this 
Code section to strengthen the reporting requirements for 
incidents involving violent acts, controlled substances 
and drugs, threats against school personnel, and 
illegally carrying a firearm onto school property. As a 
result of our increased scrutiny of school safety 
policies, we wanted to highlight changes to subsection C 
which involve local policy adoption.
