| SUBJECT: | Competitive Subgrant Application for Learn and Serve Virginia K-12 Grants 1999-2000 |
The Corporation for National Service has announced that Virginia will receive funds to support Learn and Serve, a program designed for the purpose of planning, operating, implementing, or expanding high quality school-based service-learning projects, grades K-12. The Virginia Department of Education will make funds available to expand the number of service-learning projects in 1999-2000. School divisions that have not previously participated in a Learn and Serve Virginia, K-12 program are invited to submit an application. Competitive subgrants are due June 15, 1999. Subgrantees will be notified before June 30, 1999, and project preparation and implementation activities will begin July 1, 1999. One subgrant per successful application will be awarded, in an amount of up to $13,000. A subgrantee will match at least 50% of the cost of a school division's project.
