SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 188
October 8, 1999 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Paul D. Stapleton Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Public School Buildings Placed Under Contract Between July 1, 1998 - June 30, 1999, and Individual and Average Cost Data by School Type |
Attached are:
* A list of new public school projects
placed under contract in fiscal year
1998-99 with individual and average cost
data by school types (Attachments 1-3);
* A list of selected addition and
renovation projects in fiscal year 1998-
99 with individual and average cost data
(Attachment 4);
* A six-year (1993-1994 through 1998-99)
tabulation of average unit area and cost
data (Attachment 5); and,
* A graph, based on the above, indicating
the change in public school construction
costs over a six-year period (Attachment
6).
As was provided last year, we have identified site
development costs as a separate item on Attachments No. 1-
3. Based on last year's averages, there appears to be an
increase in prices compared to the previous year, except
for the middle school average costs. We are not aware of
any reason for the low cost of the middle schools; however,
we do not expect the average cost of middle school
construction to remain below the cost of elementary school
construction in the future.
If you have any questions concerning the above, please call
Hunter L. Barnes, architectural consultant, Facilities
Services at (804) 225-2035.
