The Department of Education sent Part I of the Survey of Limited English Proficient LEP) Students to each locality in November 1999 (Administrative Supts. Memo No. 93). A federal grant received by the Department of Education requires the collection of additional data not requested in previous fall surveys. Thus, the LEP survey has been divided into two parts. Part II, the current survey, requests the following information for the 1999-2000 school year: · Number of LEP students retained (grades 7-12) · Number of LEP students who exited the program · Tests and methods used for reclassification · Number of teachers who received ESL in-service or pre-service training Please provide the additional information regarding your ESL program on the attached form, and forward the completed form by July 21, 2000, to Terry Franson, ESL specialist, at the address listed on the form.
