|
ADMINISTRATIVE
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Jo Lynne DeMary
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Report of Dropouts, 1999-2000 School Year |
In order for the Department of Education to meet commonwealth legislative reporting requirements, the 1999-2000 Report of Dropouts must be completed for certain schools in your division. Completed reports should be e-mailed to dropouts@pen.k12.va.usno later than Monday, November 6, 2000.
The dropout report must be submitted by:
1. Schools that had membership in any of grades 7 through 12, and
2. Schools that had students age 12 or older (on January 1, 2000) in ungraded classrooms (include only students reported as ungraded on the September 30, 1999, membership report).
The dropout report should not be completed for vocational, technical, special education, or alternative education centers providing specialized instruction to students officially enrolled at other schools.
The 1999-2000 Report of Dropouts has been revised to include changes to make Virginia’s dropout reporting practices conform with federal dropout definitions and reporting procedures. Additional changes also have been made to exclude information that is no longer needed and to collect information needed to meet vocational federal reporting requirements. These revisions include the following:
Information is required about the central office contact person who can answer questions regarding the 1999-2000 Report of Dropouts for all schools. In the Excel spreadsheet, contact information is requested on the first worksheet.
The statistics on dropouts will be made available to the Virginia General Assembly, and the information will be included in the School Performance Report Card in October 2001. Because of the short period of time we have to process and publish dropout statistics, any reports received before the due date will be sincerely appreciated.
Please direct any questions or
comments regarding the Report of Dropouts to dropouts@pen.k12.va.us
