The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you about Project ECOLE. Item 136E.9 of Chapter 935, 1999 Acts of Assembly, requires the Department of Education to assist in the dissemination of information about Project ECOLE to school divisions and to provide technical assistance to school divisions replicating the program. Project ECOLE, an @Electronic Community of Learning and Education,@ is an Internet-based resource for teachers and students. The website www.vcimp.com includes activities and assessments linked to the Standards of Learning for grades K-12 in mathematics, science, history and social science, English, and computer technology. Virginia Computer Institute, Inc. developed Project ECOLE and established a partnership with Manassas Park City Schools to implement an automated curriculum linked to the Standards of Learning. As development continues, Project ECOLE is being made available to other school divisions at a cost of $5,000 per school for training and technical support. Other requirements for participation include the commitment of two teachers to developing SOL multimedia projects, two days of training, Internet access, special software, and access to a digital camera or a camcorder.
