Governor James S. Gilmore, III has officially recognized January 26, 2000, as SCHOOL NURSE APPRECIATION DAY in the Commonwealth of Virginia. School nurses have the professional education and skills to function successfully in the complex systems of education and health. The primary role of the school nurse is to support student learning through the implementation of strategies that promote student and staff health and safety. Division superintendents are encouraged to join with Governor Gilmore and the Department of Education in recognizing Virginia School nurses for "their dedication to their students' good health and their compassion for students needing medical attention."
