SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 47
March 10, 2000 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | JoLynne DeMary Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Geographic Regions of Virginia Map for History and Social Science Standards of Learning 4.2 |
In response to educators' concerns about the difficulty of locating maps that match History and Social Science Standards of Learning 4.2, the Department of Education has developed a map showing the geographic regions of Virginia. The map depicts the four geographic regions of Virginia referred to in the History and Social Science Standards of Learning 4.2. The Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy in the Virginia Division of Mineral Resources assisted in developing the map. The purpose of this map is to provide a clear demarcation of the regions as delineated in the standard and in the History and Social Science Standards of Learning Teacher Resource Guide. In addition to the regional boundaries the map also shows political boundaries in Virginia. Enclosed is a copy of the map, which may be reproduced as necessary to address the needs of your teachers and administrators. The map may also be downloaded from the Department of Education website at www.pen.k12.va.us by clicking on SOL Resources. Questions about uses of the geographic regions of Virginia map may be directed to History and Social Science Specialist K-8 Joan L. Spence at (804)786-7076. JLD/JLS/jms Enclosure
