March 17, 2000 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | JoLynne DeMary Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Virginia Partners in Education Conference April 9-10, 2000 |
This memorandum is to encourage your participation in an upcoming event that is being held to promote student success. The Virginia Partners in Education is sponsoring a conference, "Building Better Communities Through Partnerships," April 9-10, 2000 at the Richmond Hyatt. The conference will highlight successful partnerships between the schools and local businesses, community organizations, and other agencies to support and extend educational opportunities for young people. Schools, alone, cannot make the difference in the lives of our young people that we can make by working together to forge community partnerships. At this conference you will see and hear of many examples of partnerships that are making a difference on a very personal level in the lives of our students. The keynote speaker is Mr. Robert Goodwin, president of the Points of Light Foundation. The conference will also provide opportunities for leadership development and networking and will focus on the establishment and maintenance of effective partnerships involving the public schools. Please show your support for students' success by taking the time to attend the conference and encouraging others to do the same. Registration information can be obtained by contacting Christy Ball at (804) 395-2655 or email svbec@longwood.lwc.edu. JLD/MJB/cle
