| SUBJECT: | Public Hearings for Fine Arts and Foreign Language Standards of Learning |
The Virginia Board of Education will hold five hearings across the state on
April 3, 2000, to solicit public comment on the proposed revised Standards of
Learning (SOL) for Dance Arts, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts, Music, and Foreign
Language. The proposed SOL are available on the Internet at:
http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/tocontents.html
The hearings will begin at 7 p.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments
for the Board. Comments may also be mailed by April 3, 2000, to the appropriate
content specialist listed below. The hearings will be at the following locations:
Hanover County Lee-Davis High School, 7052 Mechanicsville Pike,

The SOL for the specified content areas identify the essential content, processes,
and skills for each grade level and/or courses in these areas. No statewide
assessments are planned for these subject areas.
