| SUBJECT: | A Statewide Conference on Teacher Mentoring |
The Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with the Norfolk public schools, invites your teachers, administrators, staff developers, teacher mentors and human resource personnel to participate in a conference, Mentoring: Building a Stronger Teaching Force, on May 18-19, 2000. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. on May 18. It will conclude at 5 p.m. on May 19, 2000. The conference registration fee is $90 per person, which includes conference materials, a continental breakfast, and lunch on May 19, 2000. The conference offers focus sessions on: · Establishing and designing teacher mentor programs; · Enhancing mentor skills; and, · Sustaining and refining teacher mentor programs. Dr. Laura Lipton, director, Educational Consulting Services in New York, and Bruce Wellman, director, Science Resources in Vermont, will jointly present the keynote address, Learning-Focused Mentoring: Consulting, Collaborating and Coaching Excellence.
