SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 81
April 21, 2000 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | JoLynne DeMary Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Student Transcripts and SOL Test Results |
Questions have been raised as to what should be done with the labels containing the scores for the Standards of Learning (SOL) test results. Supts. Memo No. 121, dated June 11, 1999, stated that Governor Gilmore and Board of Education President Kirk Schroder had reviewed the issue of whether SOL test results should be included on the students' transcripts. It was decided that the Board of Education would not require school divisions to report SOL test scores on high school transcripts. The Board of Education is expected to address this issue as it promulgates revisions to the Regulations Governing Secondary School Transcripts. Until such time as the revised regulations are promulgated, SOL test scores should not be included on the students' transcripts, and should not be released to colleges, universities, or other institutions that may receive copies of students' transcripts. The SOL test scores should, however, be maintained in students' records. You may wish to affix the labels to blank sheets of paper and place them in students' folders until you have received further instructions. Please contact Vernon L. Wildy at (804) 225-2877 if you have questions relative to student transcripts, contact the Division of Assessment at (804) 225-2102 if you have questions relative to SOL Test Results, and contact the Division of Student Services at (804) 225-2402 if you have questions relative to student records.
