SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 93
May 5, 2000 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | JoLynne DeMary Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | School Profile Teacher Survey |
On April 26, the Virginia Board of Education approved the 14 items for inclusion in the School Profile Teacher Survey referenced in Superintendents Memo #14 (April 14, 2000, Administrative). A copy of the survey items, background information, and other data are attached. Since the survey will be administered on-line, the attached version contains only the approved items. If you would like to view the actual survey on-line, you may log in (after May 8) to www.secure-survey.com and use the following: PIN, 00000000000 (11 digits) and PASSWORD, 000000 (6 digits). Any responses to the items using this PIN and password will not be recorded in the database. Please feel free to share these access codes, as you deem appropriate. These codes have been provided to principals, as noted in the attached copy of instructions for the distribution of personalized PIN numbers to the teaching staff. Also attached, for your information, is a copy of the message sent to all teachers in Virginia requesting their participation in the School Profile Teacher Survey. These data will provide an excellent opportunity for teachers and administrators to share comments regarding the conditions necessary to support effective instruction in the content of the Standards of Learning. Each of the survey items is correlated to the characteristics of effective schools. Research identifies the use of time and the focus on the curricula as two of the most critical variables that separate effective schools from ineffective schools. We hope you will be able to use these data to help your students succeed in learning the content, processes, and skills specified in the Standards of Learning. Should you have any questions regarding the content of the survey or the profile, please contact Kevin Bell (mailto:rbell@pen.k12.va.us) , public relations manager at (804) 3371-240.
