SUBJECT: Statewide Teacher Training for the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program

The Office of Special Education and Student Services and the Division of Assessment and Reporting will conduct 15 training sessions across the state on the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program. These sessions are designed for teachers who will be teaching students participating in the alternate assessment in the spring of 2001. Special education directors and division directors of testing are also invited to attend. A schedule is enclosed listing each of the training dates and locations. All training sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Registration and training materials will be available at 8:00 a.m.

The Department of Education will provide substitute reimbursement to school divisions for teachers attending training who will participate in alternate assessment during the 2000-2001 school year. School divisions will be reimbursed at a rate of $50 per day. Attached is the reimbursement request form. This form should be returned by November 1 to Mrs. Kim Shackelford, program support technician, Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond Virginia 23218-2120.

To register school staff, please submit a separate registration form for each person attending. Registration forms should be returned to Ms. Dawn Edge, office services specialist, Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond Virginia 23218-2120.
