The Governorís Conference on Education will be held at the Omni Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, on September 19, 2000. The theme of the conference is No Excuses: Closing the Achievement Gap.
The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for educational leaders in Virginia to learn how public schools in other states are meeting the challenge to improve the achievement of students from low-income families. Individuals attending the conference will hear addresses from three out-of-state speakers whose schools have succeeded in substantially improving studentsí academic achievement. Information about the speakers is included in an attachment to this memo.
Included in the program will be presentations by educators in Virginia whose schools have succeeded in raising the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students.
Rooms are available at the Omni for the night of September 18 at the conference rate of $169. If you need reservations, please call (804) 344-7000 and be sure to say that you will be attending the conference. There is no charge for the conference and lunch is included.
Because of limited space at the conference, registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis limited to the first 350 people who register.
