| SUBJECT: | Leadership Training Institutes on Guidelines for Uniform Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria for Teachers, Administrators, and Superintendents |
The May 19, 2000, Informational Superintendent's
Memorandum Number 100 informed you of the Board of Education's adoption
of Guidelines for Uniform Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria
for Teachers, Administrators, and Superintendents. You also received a
copy of the adopted guidelines which were designed in response to the 1999
Education Accountability and Quality Enhancement Act (House Bill 2710 and
Senate Bill 1145).
Recently, the Department of Education provided
a grant to the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia, to work
collaboratively with The College of William and Mary and several professional
organizations to conduct a series of leadership training institutes based
on the uniform performance standards. The institutes will be conducted
on the following dates: September 21, 2000, at the Riverside Center,
Stafford County;
September 28, 2000, at the Hampton Holiday
Inn; March 8, 2001, at the Wyndham Roanoke Airport Hotel; and March 15,
2001, at the Charlottesville Doubletree Hotel. I encourage you and
representatives of your school division to consider the advantages of participating
in one of the four training sessions. Each session has an attendance limit
of 250 and will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. Brochures with additional
details about the training sessions are available by calling the Virginia
Association of School Superintendents at (804) 924-0538.
