Guidelines Governing the Donation to Students of Obsolete Educational Technology Hardware and Software Replaced by Local School Boards |
HB 805, enacted by the 2000 General Assembly,
permits school divisions to donate replaced obsolete hardware and software
to public school students, as provided for by guidelines developed by the
Board of Education. This memorandum transmits the guidelines for donation
adopted by the Board of Education on September 28, 2000. The guidelines
address criteria for determining student eligibility and need; a required
reporting system for the compilation of information concerning the number
and socioeconomic characteristics of recipient students; and notification
of parents of the availability of such donations. Local school boards should
follow these guidelines when donating replaced computer hardware and software
to students. Copies of the legislation and the board’s resolution are also
attached. The code sections for your reference are §§ 22.1-129
D and 22.1-199.1 B 4.
