SUBJECT: Public Hearings for Revised History and Social Science Standards of Learning

The Virginia Board of Education will hold four hearings across the state on January 8, 2001, to solicit public comment on the proposed revised Standards of Learning for History and Social Science. The History and Social Science Standards of Learning identify the essential content, processes, and skills for each grade level and/or courses in these areas. The proposed standards are available on the Internet at: http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/historysolrevise.pdf

The hearings will begin at 7 p.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 6:30 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board of Education. Comments may also be mailed by January 8, 2001, to the content specialists listed below. The hearings will be at the following locations:
