|SUBJECT:||Statewide Contest for Board Seal Designs|
The Board of Education, at its meeting on September 28, 2000, adopted two new diploma seals in accordance with the revised Regulations Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia. They are the Board of Educationís Advanced Mathematics and Technology Seal and the Board of Educationís Career and Technical Education Seal. You may refer to Supts. Memo No. 202 dated November 3, 2000, for information about the board seals. As a result of this action, the board decided to sponsor a contest inviting middle and high school students to submit seal designs.
The Department of Education is pleased to assist the Board of Education with the seal design contest. Information and entry forms are posted on-line at /administrators/superintendents_memos/2000/inf217a.pdf. Please obtain the on-line information and entry forms and distribute them to your middle and high school administrators and teachers.
Student contest winners will be awarded savings bonds and recognized by the board. The Virginia Education Association is a partner in this endeavor and will be providing a $500 savings bond for first place, $250 savings bonds for second place, and $100 savings bond for third place student winners in each seal contest.
Studentsí entries should be submitted to the Department of Education by February 1, 2001, and contest winners will be announced February 14, 2001.
