|SUBJECT:||Standards of Learning Instructional Materials Funds for Fiscal Year 2002|
The state appropriation act for fiscal year 2002 (Chapter 1073, 2000 Acts of Assembly) includes $6,328,763 for incentive payments to school divisions to assist in implementing the Standards of Learning. Funds shall be used to purchase textbooks and/or instructional materials that are related to the Standards of Learning. Payments to school divisions shall be based on the state share of $10 per student in adjusted average daily membership and shall be made to any school division that certifies to the Department of Education that such funds will be used to purchase textbooks and/or instructional materials that support implementation of the Standards of Learning. The certification shall include a description of the purpose for which the funds will be used. School divisions are encouraged to use these funds to help purchase additional instructional materials that teachers may need to implement the revised Standards of Learning for history and social science. Localities receiving the incentive payments are required to match these funds based on the composite index of local ability to pay.
A printout of each school divisionís allocation by fiscal year is attached. Divisions interested in receiving FY2001-2002 incentive payments to assist in implementing the Standards of Learning should complete the attached form and submit it to Patricia I. Wright, assistant superintendent for instruction, by September 28, 2001. If you have questions or need additional clarification, please contact Dr. Wright by phone at (804) 225-2979, by fax at (804) 786-5828, or by e-mail at (mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org).
