The Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) are pleased to announce that the annual Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference and Exposition will be held June 24-June 27, 2001, at The Homestead in Hot Springs. This annual event is sponsored jointly by the VASSP and the VDOE to collaboratively develop and enhance middle and high school administrators’ leadership skills, increase their understanding of current educational issues, and expand their knowledge base for educational change. The theme for this year’s conference is "Inspiring Creative Leadership: Advancing Your Success." A major focus of the conference will be on implementing the Standards of Learning and improving student achievement on the SOL assessments.
This leadership conference will feature general and concurrent sessions that will provide participants with strategies for analyzing classroom practices and methods for improving instruction, monitoring SOL implementation, analyzing and interpreting SOL assessment data for instructional purposes, and using instructional technology to teach the SOL. Training programs and resource materials that support the SOL will also be showcased.
The Call for Presentations and Principals Needs Assessment attachments will be made available to all middle level and high school administrators. Conference planners also invite you and your staff to submit a presentation form to be considered for inclusion in the conference program. The presentation form must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2001, and mailed to Summer Conference, VASSP, Box K 170, Richmond, VA 23288.
The completed program, registration information, and hotel accommodation forms will be mailed to division superintendents and to all middle level and high school administrators later this spring. If you have questions about the conference, please call VASSP at (804) 288-2777.
