SUBJECT: Public Hearing for Remedial Regulations

The Virginia Board of Education will hold a hearing on June 20, 2001, to solicit public comment on the proposed remedial regulations for state funded remedial programs. State funded remedial programs include Standards of Learning assessment remediation, remedial summer school, and Standards of Quality remediation. The proposed regulations identify program planning, approval, reporting and evaluation requirements; teacher qualifications; staffing ratios; and the transportation formula for state funded remedial programs. The proposed regulations are included as Attachment A.

Registration of speakers will begin at 5 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board of Education. The hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the following location:
