| SUBJECT: | Principals Appreciation
Week
May 27 - June 2, 2001 |
Governor James S. Gilmore, III has declared May 27-June 2, 2001, as Principals Appreciation Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Governor recognizes that principals in Virginia are responsible for providing instructional leadership and effective school management, promoting positive student achievement, safe and secure environments, and the efficient use of resources.
I hope that you and others in your community will join me in acknowledging the tireless efforts of school principals across the state. School principals work diligently to help students and teachers excel, and their leadership and hard work are essential to the success of public schools. They deserve all the recognition and praise we can give them.
In recognition of Principals Appreciation Week, Secretary of Education Wilbert Bryant, presented copies of the attached proclamation to the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals and the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals at the Board of Education meeting on May 24.
I hope that you will announce the observance of Principals Appreciation Week and plan activities to honor your principals.
If you need additional information about this proclamation, please contact Anne Wescott, assistant superintendent for policy and public affairs, at 804 225-2403 or awescott@mail.vak12ed.edu.
