| SUBJECT: | Application Packet for Learn and Serve K-12 Competitive Grant Program |
The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the availability of Learn and Serve K-12 grant funds to be awarded to school divisions for the development of new school-based, service-learning programs for the 2001-2002 school year. Currently, Virginia has 24 Learn and Serve projects that provide opportunities for students to apply classroom learning through service projects in the local community.
Funding for the Learn and Serve K-12 program is provided by the Corporation for National Service. Programs selected for funding will be awarded up to $15,000 and are required to match the grant with the same amount of local or state funds.
Learn and Serve is a competitive grant program. Applications for Learn and Serve are due in the Office of Adult Education and Literacy no later than September 7, 2001, at 4:30 p.m. The application packet can be found in electronic form at the Department of Education's website:
