|SUBJECT:||Public Hearing for Mathematics Standards of Learning|
The Virginia Board of Education will hold four hearings across the state to solicit public comment on the proposed revised Standards of Learning (SOL) for mathematics. Three of the public hearings will take place on October 2, 2001, beginning at 7 p.m., and one will be held on October 4, 2001, beginning at 5 p.m.
For the hearings beginning at 7 p.m., registration of speakers will begin at 6:30 p.m. For the hearing beginning at 5 p.m., registration of speakers will begin at 4:30 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board. Comments also may be mailed by October 12, 2001, to the content specialists listed on the following page. The hearings will be at the following locations:

The Standards of Learning for mathematics identify the essential content, processes, and skills for each grade level and/or courses in these areas. The proposed standards will be available by September 24, 2001 on the Internet at: http://www.pen.k12.va.us.
