|SUBJECT:||Nominations for the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted, 2002-2005 Term|
The Virginia Board of Education appoints members to the Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted. The committee provides the board and the Superintendent of Public Instruction with advice and recommendations regarding educational services for gifted students in public schools. The committee studies issues related to the education of the gifted or to the Governor’s School program. Its findings are provided to the Board of Education through an annual report.
Nominees are currently being sought for the three-year term that will begin in September 2002 and end in June 2005. For the 2002-2005 term, the committee will be seeking candidates from the following organizations or groups:
Gifted Education Coordinators (2)
Higher Education Representatives (4)
At-Large Representative (1)
Parent Affiliate Representative (1)
Other nominees are being sought to represent professional organizations. The committee’s bylaws require that these nominees be members of the executive boards of their respective organizations. Letters requesting nominations are also being sent to the executive directors of the following organizations:
Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals
Virginia Association for the Gifted
Consortium of Administrators for Education of the Gifted
Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers
Virginia Counselors Association
Superintendents and others are invited to recommend persons to be nominated to the Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted. In February 2002, the advisory committee’s nominating subcommittee will review information submitted by nominees for the 2002-2005 term. The committee’s slate of potential members will be submitted to the Board of Education in May and June 2002 for approval.
Superintendents and others wishing to submit the names of people to serve may complete the recommendation form attached to this memo and send it electronically to Dr. Barbara McGonagill (mailto:email@example.com), specialist, Governor’s Schools and Gifted Education, Office of Secondary Instructional Services, by November 1, 2001.
