SUBJECT: The MOM USA 2002 Student Writing Competition

This memorandum provides information regarding the MOM USA Student Writing Competition sponsored by MOM USA, headquartered in Huntington, West Virginia. The attached announcement provides details about the competition should students in your school division wish to participate.

MOM USA started in 1990 as a statewide recognition event in the state where Motherís Day was established, West Virginia. The purpose of the contest is to recognize the outstanding contributions of mothers to their children, families, and communities. A mother is nominated for the national title of MOM when a family member submits a 300-word letter telling why his or her mother deserves to win. Each state will select one mother to represent the state at the national competition held in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday April 21, 2002. The national winner will be awarded a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond and other prizes. There is no cost for students to nominate their mothers for the national honor.

Any questions concerning this contest may be addressed to MOM USA at PO Box 1093 Huntington, WV 25714 (visitmom@momusa.com).
