|SUBJECT:||Textbook and Instructional Materials Review Schedule|
The purpose of this memo is to clarify the schedule for the review of textbooks and instructional materials by the Department of Education. In September 2000 the Board of Education approved the cycle for the review and revision of the Standards of Learning. The schedule is posted at the following website: /administrators/superintendents_memos/2000/inf200.html. It was proposed at that time that the schedule for review of textbooks and instructional materials be aligned with the approved Standards of Learning revision cycle. Based on that proposal, history and social science, health, physical education, and driver education textbooks and instructional materials will be reviewed in the spring and summer of 2002. To complete the previous review cycle, the K-5 reading and integrated language arts textbooks and instructional materials are being reviewed now and the correlations will be available in January 2002.
I hope this information clarifies the new process and assists school divisions in making plans for purchasing textbooks and instructional materials.
