New Passing
Scores Adopted by the Board of Education for Certain SOL History Tests |
At
its November 27, 2001, meeting the Board of Education voted unanimously to
adjust the passing scores for four of the Standards of Learning (SOL) history
tests. The new passing scores, which are based on the scores recommended by the
original standard setting committees in 1998, follow.
New Score for
Test Pass/Proficient
Grade 5 History 25
Grade 8 History 28
World History from 1000 A.D./Geography 32
(World
History II)
United States
History 34
It
is important to note that these new passing scores apply only to the tests
developed for the 2001-2002 (beginning with the current fall 2001
administration) and 2002-2003 school years. New history standards were adopted
in 2001 and for these two transition years the history tests will measure the
content common to the 1995 and 2001 standards.
In 20032004 tests will be administered that measure only
the 2001 Standards of Learning. Since
these will be new tests, new standard setting committees will need to be
convened and new passing scores will need to be set for these tests.
