Monitoring Review of the School Nutrition Programs |
The Code of
Federal Regulations 7, Section 210.18, requires the Department of Education to
conduct an administrative review of the federally funded breakfast, lunch,
afterschool snack, and special milk programs in each school division once every
five years. This review is a
comprehensive on-site evaluation designed to assess compliance with
regulations, standards, and state and federal laws. For your information, the
schedule for the next five years is attached (Attachment 1).
A review
schedule for the school year 2002-2003 is also attached (Attachment 2). School divisions scheduled for a review next
year are asked to compare the scheduled dates to the divisions calendar. Please advise the School Nutrition Programs
Office by July 1, 2002, of any conflicts due to holidays, scheduled breaks, or
any dates during the scheduled review week when meals would not be offered to
students.
School
Nutrition Programs will conduct orientation sessions for divisions scheduled
for a review next school year. Each
division is requested to send a representative to one of the sessions; the
representative should have division-wide responsibility for the school
nutrition programs. One-day sessions
will be conducted on September 12, 2002, in Richmond and also on September 13,
2002, in Radford. Additional
information and registration details will be sent in mid-July.
If you have
questions regarding the federal review or conflicts with the scheduled review
dates, please contact Lynne Fellin or India Liggon at (804) 225-2074.
